John Earl Madden is a former American football coach and sportscaster from Austin, Minnesota. Madden won a Super Bowl as head coach of the Oakland Raiders, and after retiring from coaching became a well-known color commentator for NFL telecasts.

Early Life
John Madden was born on April 10th of 1936 in Austin, Minnesota. In order to pursue work opportunities, his father moved the family to California to find a job as an auto mechanic. John was still young at the time, and he spent most of his youth growing up in a small town just south of San Francisco. After enrolling in a Catholic school, he then moved to Jefferson High School. During his time in high school, John Madden quickly became a high-performing member of the football team. John was a talented, versatile young athlete who showed promise in both offensive and defensive positions. He also proved to be a talented baseball player.

Madden is married to Virginia Fields and has two children from the marriage Joseph and Michael. The couple is said to have met at a bar in California. Television Career
Immediately after retiring from coaching, John Madden began a long and illustrious career as a color commentator and analyst. He eventually worked for all four major networks, including Fox, CBS, ABC, and NBC. Eventually, he became one of the most sought-after television personalities in American sport, commanding multi-million dollar salaries. In order to entice him to join their network, NBC even offered to build Madden a “luxury train” (John Madden is famously averse to flying).
Career
Madden wanted to be a football player and used to play football in high school. While studying at San Mateo he used to play football and had to back out due to a knee injury. He went on to play for the Mustangs at Car Poly. He was then drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles but during his training period, he injured his other knee in the training camp. Therefore, he never got to play football professionally.
In 1960, he became the assistant coach at the Allan Hancock College, and then in 1963, he was appointed as the defensive assistant coach at the San Diego State. Later he was hired by the Oakland Raiders in 1967 as the linebackers coach. Two years down, when the head coach of the Raiders retired, Madden was made the head coach. At the age of 39, Madden became one of the youngest head coaches and under his training Raiders reached Super Bowl II that season making Madden one of the best football coaches in the history of the Raiders team. He even became the youngest coach to reach 100 career regular victories. From 1979 to 2003, Madden worked as a commentator on all the major American Television Networks CBS Sports, Fox Sports, ABC Sports, and NBC Sports. He even went on to air Westwood One radio network in the USA. He even featured in movies like Christine and Little Giants. He has been honored with many awards the most prominent one of them is being featured in the Pro football hall of fame.
