Melinda Lou “Wendy” Thomas-Morse was born on September 14, 1961, in Columbus, Ohio, to Dave and Lorraine Thomas. She grew up in Upper Arlington. She has four siblings, Ken, Pam, Molly, and Lori. She had trouble pronouncing her own name, Melinda, as a child, and was given the nickname Wendy as a result. The Wendy’s emblem portrays a young freckle-faced girl with red braids, who looks eerily similar to Morse. Her academic background includes a bachelor’s degree in consumer behaviorism from the University of Florida in 1983.
Melinda Morse first married Gary Floto, who passed away after living together for some years. After the death of her first husband, Wendy began her relationship with Paul Morse. Paul is Wendy’s second husband and she also has a daughter named Mckenzie Morse.
Until 1999, Morse was the owner of a number of Wendy’s restaurants in the Dallas area but she and her siblings bought restaurants in Columbus when her father, Dave Thomas, passed away in 2002. Morse co-owns and has owned over 30 Wendy’s restaurants. After her voice was heard in a 1989 ad giving her father advice, she started starring in fast food commercials in 2010. Before being carried out nationally, the 2010 ads aired in Las Vegas, Nevada, Mobile, Alabama, and Virginia Beach, Virginia. She has been featured in a series of Wendy’s commercials titled That Wendy’s Way since 2012, reaffirming the company’s commitment to high-quality products, preparation, and service. She also starred in an ad for Publicis Groupe’s Kaplan Thaler Group called Dave’s Hot ‘N Juicy Cheeseburger. She is a board member of the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption in addition to being a Wendy’s franchisee.
